Board game night poll

Pick the night and the game in one poll. Friends vote on dates, rank the games they want to play, and answer without making an account. Free to start.

Board game night has two questions, and the group chat can only handle one at a time. First everyone argues about which evening works. Then, once that’s settled, someone asks what you’re playing, and the whole thing starts again. By the time it’s decided, half the group has muted the thread.

EventMoot puts both questions on one page. You offer a few evenings and list the games, send one link, and each friend answers everything at once: which nights they can make, and which games they’d most like to play. You see the best night and the favourite game side by side.

Nobody needs an account to answer, so it works for the friend who only comes once a season as well as the regulars.

How to run a board game night poll

  1. Add the evenings

Create an event and add a date poll. Pick the evenings you could host and give each a time, such as 7:00 to 11:00 PM. If you only care about the day, leave the times off and people answer per day.

  2. Add a poll for the game

Add a second poll to the same event and list the games. Pick the kind that fits your group:

    • Ranking: everyone puts the games in order, by dragging or with Move up and Move down. First place scores the most points, so the result reflects the whole table, not only first choices.
    • Single choice: one pick each, for a quick vote between two or three games.
    • Multiple choice: tick every game you’d happily play, to find the ones nobody minds.
    • Rating: one to five stars per game, when you want to know how keen people are.

Add more if you like: a yes/no for who can bring snacks, a multiple choice for who’s bringing what, or a text question for requests.

  3. Send one link

Publishing copies the invite link. Share it wherever your friends talk. Each person opens it, marks Yes, Maybe or No on each evening, answers the game poll on the same page and presses submit. Times appear in each person’s own time zone.

EventMoot on a phone: the poll “Which Thursday works?” for Curse of Strahd, Session 14, hosted by Maya, with 6 people answered. Thursday Oct 28 and Thursday Nov 4 are each offered 7:00 to 10:00 PM EDT with Yes, Maybe and No buttons, and this player has tapped Yes on both.
  4. Pick the night and the game

The results list the evenings with the most Yes answers first, and the game poll shows its ranking or totals. Finalize the winning evening and everyone with an account is told. The invite link then shows the decided night with buttons to add it to Google Calendar or download an .ics file. If you asked where to meet, the leading answer is filled in as the location.

“It's on!” for Curse of Strahd, Session 13, as a player in Los Angeles sees it: Thursday Oct 21, 4:00 to 7:00 PM PDT, with 7:00 to 10:00 PM EDT for the host, buttons to add it to Google Calendar or download an .ics file, and 4 going, 1 maybe.

Try the sample first

The sample poll is a board game night: pick from three evenings, choose what to play first between Wingspan, Catan and Azul, and say what you can bring. It’s the same poll your friends would see, it needs no account, and nothing is saved. When you’ve answered, you see the results as the organizer would.

For a regular group

If the same friends meet every few weeks, make them a moot. You invite them once, every game night you plan in the moot reaches them all, and the moot’s message board holds the “who’s got the expansion?” conversation between sessions. When a night is decided, Run again next week drafts the next one. On Ent ($5/mo or $50/yr), a recurring pattern can post the sessions for you; see recurring game night.

What it costs

Entling, the free plan, covers everything above that isn't marked Ent, with limits on events, polls and people per event. Ent is $5/mo or $50/yr, raises those limits and adds the features marked Ent. The pricing page lists each plan's current limits.

Questions

Can one poll pick the date and the game?

Yes. An event holds several polls, and your friends answer them all on one page: a date poll for the evening and a ranking, single choice, multiple choice or rating poll for the game.

How does the ranking poll pick a winner?

Each person orders the games. First place scores the most points and last place the fewest, and the results add up everyone’s points. Ties are broken by how many people ranked a game first.

Do my friends need to sign up?

No. They open the link, give their name and answer. Without an account their answers are kept in their browser, and they open the link again to see the decided night.

Is it free?

Yes. Entling, the free plan, includes all 7 poll types, with limits on events, polls and people per event. Ent is $5/mo or $50/yr and raises those limits.
