Overview

EventMoot offers 7 different poll types, each designed for specific use cases. Understanding when to use each type helps you gather the right information from your attendees.

Date Selection

Best for: Finding the best time for your event

The Date Selection poll is the most common poll type for event planning. It lets you:

  1. Select multiple potential dates
  2. Add time slots for each date
  3. Collect availability from attendees

How It Works

For organizers:

  • Pick dates from the calendar
  • Add one or more time slots per date
  • Optionally set a deadline for responses

For attendees: Each time slot can be marked as:

  • Yes (Available) - I can make this time
  • Maybe (Tentative) - I might be able to make it
  • No (Unavailable) - I cannot make this time

Smart Features

  • Conflict Detection - Warns attendees about overlapping commitments
  • Summary View - See at a glance which times have the most availability
  • Visual Heatmap - Color-coded display of response distribution

Single Choice

Best for: Quick decisions with one answer

Single Choice polls let attendees pick exactly one option from a list.

Use Cases

  • "Where should we eat?" (Restaurant A, B, or C)
  • "What game should we play?"
  • "Which theme do you prefer?"

Configuration

  • Add 2 or more options
  • Optionally allow "Other" responses
  • Set as required or optional

Multiple Choice

Best for: Selecting multiple preferences

Multiple Choice polls let attendees select more than one option.

Use Cases

  • "What activities interest you?" (Select all that apply)
  • "Which dates work for you?" (simple version)
  • "What game systems would you like to try?"

Configuration

  • Add 2 or more options
  • Set minimum selections (optional)
  • Set maximum selections (optional)
  • Allow "Other" responses

Yes/No

Best for: Simple binary questions

The Yes/No poll is a streamlined Single Choice with pre-filled options.

Use Cases

  • "Can you make it?"
  • "Should we order food?"
  • "Do you need a ride?"

Why Use It?

  • Faster to create than Single Choice
  • Clear, unambiguous responses
  • Great for quick confirmations

Text Response

Best for: Open-ended feedback

Text Response polls collect written answers from attendees.

Use Cases

  • "Any dietary restrictions?"
  • "What should we discuss?"
  • "Additional comments?"

Configuration

  • Short Text - Single line input (default)
  • Long Text - Multi-line textarea
  • Max Length - Limit character count (optional)

Tips

  • Use for qualitative feedback
  • Keep questions specific
  • Consider making optional unless truly required

Ranking

Best for: Priority ordering

Ranking polls let attendees order items by preference.

Use Cases

  • "Rank these game options"
  • "Prioritize these campaign storylines"
  • "Order your food preferences"

How It Works

  1. Add items to rank (2 or more, though 3+ is recommended for meaningful results)
  2. Attendees drag items into their preferred order
  3. Results show aggregate rankings

Results Interpretation

Rankings are calculated using a points system:

  • 1st place = highest points
  • Last place = lowest points
  • Ties are broken by count of top rankings

Rating

Best for: Scoring items on a scale

Rating polls let attendees rate multiple items on a 1-5 scale.

Use Cases

  • "How interested are you in each option?"
  • "Rate your experience with these activities"
  • "How important is each feature?"

Configuration

  • Add 2 or more items to rate
  • Each item is rated 1-5 stars
  • All items must be rated (required)

Results

Results show:

  • Average rating per item
  • Distribution of ratings
  • Ranked list by average score
