Creating Moots

Set up a new Moot and configure its settings.

Info
Moots are designed for ongoing groups. If you just need a one-time event, consider creating a standalone event instead.

Starting a New Moot

To create a Moot, navigate to Moots in the navigation and click Create Moot. You'll enter the Moot creation wizard.

Basic Information

Name (Required)

Choose a clear, recognizable name for your group:

  • "Monday Game Night"
  • "Friday Night Campaigns"
  • "The Adventuring Party"

Keep it short and descriptive. This is what members will see in their dashboard.

Description (Optional)

Add context about your group:

  • What you play together
  • Session frequency
  • Any ground rules or expectations

URL Slug

EventMoot generates a URL-friendly slug from your name:

https://eventmoot.com/moots/monday-game-night

The slug is automatically created from your Moot name and cannot be changed after creation.

Group Settings

Target Sessions per Month

How often does your group typically play?

  • Helps with smart scheduling suggestions
  • Informs recurring pattern recommendations
  • Not a hard limit, just a guide

Default Event Duration

Typical length of your gatherings:

  • Sets default when creating events
  • Can be overridden per event
  • Helps with time slot suggestions

When do you usually meet?

If your group has a regular slot, set it when you create the Moot or later in its Settings: the usual day or days, start time, length, time zone and location.

  • The Moot's home page and its invite page show it, for example "Thursdays · 7:00–10:00 PM ET". Members in another time zone also see their own time ("Thu night, midnight–3:00 AM your time, London"). The invite page never shows the location, since it can be a home address.
  • The time is kept in the Moot's own time zone, so 7 PM stays 7 PM there when the clocks change.
  • New events in the Moot start from it: time slots begin at the usual start and run for the usual length, the location is filled in, and the date poll offers "Next 4 Thursdays" to add in one go.
  • A Same time every week schedule starts from it too. See Recurring Events.
